Final Projects

We’ve Come This Far By Faith (w/reference vocal)

Here they are, the final projects. These two projects are very different, yet quite vital.

“Emmanuel’s Jam” by Emmanuel Reden is an original instrumental composition. It shows an interesting stylistic direction, is the result of creative collaboration and employs well chosen sonic textures.

“We’ve Come This Far By Faith” applies a thoughtful approach to sounds added to a downloaded MIDI arrangement of this well-known Gospel classic. While the project’s final application is as an accompaniment track to a live performance, a reference vocal needed to be recorded. It was produced by Jerrani Stephens and Leslie Errol Dillon.

Great work by everyone. I am grateful for having had you as students. I’m especially proud of you for going all the way and completing a final project. I encourage you to take this experience and consider building upon it to create opportunities for yourselves.

Well, you’ve learned quite a bit about Protools, importing MIDI files and connecting instruments to data tracks. I would suggest you read up on MIDI and Protools a little bit in the “MIDI & Protools” section of this site. It will help you review and see possibilities for the future.

When we get together on Monday, we will be discussing what you want to do as a final project. You have the weekend to think about it and discuss among yourselves. We have three weeks to do something and I know that together, we can create something really cool.

Knocks Me Off My Feet

Here’s the original MIDI file for the song. I had to correct some timing and such after bringing this into Protools. We’ll try to do a side-by-side comparison in the next class. Listening to this file will also show you how MIDI is accessible in so many ways.

You can find more MIDI files by clicking the MIDI database link, under “Cool Links”.

Stay focused on learning about MIDI and Protools. You won’t regret it.

As of this week, we will begin to explore Protools and dig deeper into the world of MIDI. Check the new page on the right to learn more. I’m completly confident in your abilities to learn this stuff.

Empower yourself, go for it!

Assignment #1

Posted by poodyglitz in Homework on April 2nd, 2009 |  No Comments »

This week’s assignment is to listen to different types of music, identify the instruments and how the song is put together. Make sure to listen with headphones so you can hear where the instruments are. If you’re on imeem, you can listen to a few playlists that I’ve created:
